Bavarian Christmas Markets

In spite of the heart attack, we went ahead with our previous plan to go to the beautiful Bavarian Christmas Markets in Munich, before our return flight home to the USA on December 8th. We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard downtown. Russ needed lots of rest but in the early evening he felt good enought to visit our first market.  We met a German couple on the tram, who invited us to tag along with them. They enjoyed telling us all about the famous places we saw on our walk past the Opera house to our first market, the medieval "mittelaltermarkt". They took us to get the famous hot mulled wine. We were happy to see that we could fill our mugs with hot kinderpunch instead! It was delicious and warming. I will never forget this market as it is unique and has kept its medieval past alive. The food was never to be forgotten; especially the "semmelknoedels" covered with delicious gravy. We loved that dish!

The next night we went to the traditional market in Marienplatz, which is right       in front of the striking town hall. It is also surrounded by famous shops.

German food in a Galleria Department store -  is definitely comfort food !
