Winchester College and bookstore

Russell checked the area for a bookbinder who could repair the binding on his 21 year old set of scriptures. They are well marked, and can't be parted with....so he found an old bookstore/bindery in nearby Winchester to repair it; P & G Wells Bookstore, 11 College Street.  It is very old (1729) and quaint. When Jane Austen died she was living at 8 College Street, practically next door, and she visited it often before she was ill.

Just like new.

Jane's nephews attended Winchester College which is on the same street. It is the oldest continuously operating school in England, founded in 1382.
King Henry VI used Winchester as a model when he founded Eton College. Both today are considered very elite schools.  Winchester has always supported "70" scholars who have housing in the medieval part of the school.  All students wear suits and ties, but the scholars are identified by their black capes.
