Historic Steam Watercress Railroad

We took a lovely afternoon trip on the historic "Watercress Line", which transported fresh watercress everyday from Alresford to Covent Gardens in London.  Today is goes to Chawton, where Jane Austen's father was Vicar. It is the delightful little village where the Austens lived for many years. Here she wrote "First Impressions" which later became "Pride and Prejudice".

My grandfather, William Thomas, was a conductor in 1910 on the Canadian Pacific Railroad, which was a similar train.

Jane's brother Frank inherited this house.

The watercess we bought at a farm nearby was wonderful!

  1. So cute! That station looks exactly like the pictures in our Thomas the Tank Engine books! :)
